In 1849 Christoph Lueders in Goerlitz built the first railed vehicles
for wood transportation of the city. 1861 the company was transformed
into a corporation for the production of railway rolling stock. 1916-1918
a complete reorganization of the extended plant took place. The company name
was modified into Waggon- und Maschinenbau-Aktiengesellschaft
Goerlitz - WUMAG -; it became soon well-known and famous. In 1923,
the company engaged 5100 employees and workers.
